A is for Applique

The initial letter is an applique of silk upon plush. The letter must be cut to the design, pasted with shoemaker’s paste into the position it is intended for, and worked round with cording-stitch or edged with silver and gold cord.

The text is from the fashion and fancy-work pages of the Young Ladies Journal, 1881. Click here to read it online, or download it free, from the Internet Archive.
